paper - Alpine walking maps - 75x90cm - 2014

This series explores the potency and resonance of folk culture through the lens of traditional Alpine embroidery patterns. They are powerful touchstones to a past and life from which we are almost completely detached. Stripping these designs down to the basics and using the absences created by the yarn holes, I create a cultural 'punch card' reprogramming the patterns with information taken from local maps and colours.
